General Summary of Duties: To provide quality health care to patients and communicate effectively with patients and staff.
Supervision Received: Reports directly to clinical manger. Takes direction from office physician.
· Must have Missouri state LPN or RN license or be a Certified Medical Assistan
· Current CPR certification.
Review charts on EMR for daily schedule. Make sure current labs, pathology, and/or x-rays are correct in EMR.
Check rooms and make sure they are clean. Spray tables down and stock rooms for the day.
Take phone calls and book appointments.
If using Voice Mail, check messages and be sure to return in a prompt fashion.
Put patient in room and take vital signs, check medications and allergies each visit, (make sure you update Med Sheet). Get a brief history of reason for visit and sign.
Enter all patient information into the EMR system.
Office Surgery: Set up office for surgery by filling out proper pathology reports and be sure to label containers sent for pathology.
Schedule appointments with specialty physicians and document in EMR.
Schedule x-rays and MRIs, check for prior authorization.
Refer patients to doctors for scopes, surgeries, etc. Follow through to make sure referrals are completed.
Notify patients of lab and x-ray reports per your doctor`s protocol.
Send out pap smear letters or document in EMR of calling the patient.
Send letter to patient for reminder of yearly pap smear if your physician so indicates.
Keep refrigerator log daily and turn in end of the month.
Keep medication (samples) logbook in order.
Check samples for outdates monthly.
Check injectables for outdates monthly.
When giving allergy injections, make sure to double-check the dosage for the patient and document in EMR. Make sure release signed if patient does not want injection.
Give patients proper instructions for procedures they are to have done.
Give injections as instructed by your doctor. Log in EMR the NDC, lot # and expiration date.
Check patient tickets to make sure your physician has put diagnoses on ticket.
Supply lab with orders for patients coming in for lab work, either written or preferably through the EMR. Make sure diagnosis is given with lab orders and order is documented in EMR.
Call in scripts to pharmacies, per your physician`s orders or fax or ascribe from EMR and check to make sure on med list in patient`s EMR chart.
If there is a question about referrals, procedures, x-rays, etc, always advise patient to call the number on their insurance card for certification.
Proper handling of critical values given to provider as soon as possible and documented as such and also document providers course of action.
Keep all patient and doctor information confidential. Remember that all information in this building is CONFIDENTIAL and violation of confidentiality is grounds for dismissal.
Treat all patients with professionalism and respect, as if they were a member of your family.
Remember to treat your co-workers with respect.
